CONFINING CONFIGURATIONS IN QCD AND REALATION TO RIGID STRINGS

The infrared region of QCD is described by gauge field configurations
exhibiting monopole and Abelian dominance. An effective dual action is
constructed starting from QCD action with quarks. This action exhibits
dual Meissner effect. By choosing specific monopole configuration, an
effective string action is obtained. This string action contains the
Nambu-Goto term and a term involoving extrinsic curvature. Fluctuations
of the world sheet are considered and the quantum one-loop effective
action corresponds to modified Coulomb gas in two dimensions with
fugacity involving the running coupling constant. Confinement at low
momentum region is exhibited.
