We attempt to discuss the formulation of the standard model on a lattice by
introducing spectator fields interacting with quarks and leptons. Such
interactions form massive bound states to gauge-invariantly decouple doublers at
high energies, leave quarks and leptons as constituents at low energies and avoid
spontaneous symmetry breaking at the lattice scale 1/a. As a consequence, the
gauge symmetries of the standard model are realized by both massive vectorlike
spectra at high energies and massless chiral spectra at low energies. Such a
scenario is consistent with the gauge-anomaly cancelation, flavor-singlet
anomaly and Witten's anomaly.
