- abstract
- We show that the structure functions of Deep Inelastic
scattering can be obtained from the collinear approximation
to QCD. This two dimensional theory can be solved
by mostly analytic methods, and numerical solutions of some integral
equations. We compare
the results to the valence parton distribution
functions obtained in neutrino scattering.
The agreement is quite good.
The analytical foundation of our work is a classical
dynamical system
which is equivalent to the large N limit of
two dimensional QCD. We show that 1/N plays the role of hbar
in this theory: the corresponding quantum theory is
equivalent to 2DQCD at all energy scales.
Novel numerical methods play an essential role, but not direct simulations.
