General INFOrmation

The discovery of neutrino masses represents the first direct observation of physics beyond the Standard Model. New data, however, keep coming and, moreover, the full implications of the existing data, both for particle physics and for astrophysics, remain to be understood. The purpose of our weeklong workshop is to bring together researchers in particle physics, nuclear physics and astrophysics who share a common interest in neutrinos. The workshop will discuss both theoretical and experimental aspects of neutrinos, with a special emphasis on their astrophysical and cosmological effects in the latter part of the workshop.

This will be a small (40 external participants), informal workshop. Every effort will be made to promote an atmosphere of discussion, in which original ideas and points of view are heard.

The INFO 05 workshop is a continuation of the annual series of workshops on physics beyond the Standard Model hosted by the particle theory group (T-8) of the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Plan of the workshop

The first three days of the workshop will address a wide range of questions relating to experiment and theory of neutrino properties. The last two days will be devoted primarily to the problem of neutrino flavor evolution in a supernova and the early Universe.

The INFO workshop will be followed by another weeklong workshop on neutrino astrophysics, being concurrently organized by Chris Fryer (T-6) and Sanjay Reddy (T-16). Having the two workshops back-to-back will provide an opportunity for the interaction and exchange of ideas between particle physics and astrophysics experts. An event of this kind will be unique in the world this year.

The workshop will be held at the Radisson hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Hotel rooms have been reserved for all registered participants.

Directions to the Radisson Santa Fe

To get to the Radisson, the cheapest (although some of you have found good flights directly into Santa Fe), and probably fastest, route is to fly into Albuquerque and drive to Santa Fe. As you leave the airport, follow signs to 25 North. Take the St. Francis Drive exit at Santa Fe. You will drive through town. At the Northern edge of town, you will see the state cemetery on your right and the Radisson on your left. The trip should take around an hour to an hour and a half.

If you will not have a car, two shuttles are available at the Albuquerque Sunport (ABQ) to take you to the Radisson Santa Fe. The trip takes around one to one and a half hours.

Financial Support

Thanks to our sponsors, we have been able to arrange for significant financial support for the workshop participants. This includes accommodations at the hotel for 5 nights (July 10 - 15) and meals (breakfast and lunch) for all registered participants. There will be no registration fee.

To register for the INFO workshop, send an email to friedland@lanl.gov. Please indicate your name, institution, contact information (phone, email), and whether you would like to give a talk. Please include "INFO05" on your subject line, to make sure your message is not blocked by our spam filter. As the number of participants is limited, the registration will be done on a "first come, first served" basis. Consequently, prospective participants are encouraged to register without delay.

A limited number of rooms is available for those who would like to stay over for the second workshop. If you are interested in staying over, please indicate so in your registration email.
