QUEST (QUantum Enabled Science and Technology) is an initiative sponsored by the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory to explore new directions in fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics (information, coherence, communication, computing, control, --) and applications made possible by recent experimental advances (cold atoms, cavity QED, NMR applications, quantum dots, SQUIDs, --).

QUEST 2001 is a small meeting in the above areas which aims at bringing experts in different sub-disciplines together to provide a picture of the present state-of-the-art and to identify future challenges as well as possible ways to overcome them. The format emphasizes discussion with some formal review and related talks as appropriate. To encourage informality and discussion, attendance is very limited and by invitation only. This year the focus will be more on specific research areas which are either already part of the QUEST initiative or soon will be.

The retreat will be held at St. John's College, a pleasant and prestigious campus situated in the hills east of downtown Santa Fe.
