QUEST 2001 Summer Retreat: Eating Out

Santa Fe has many restaurants, quite a few of which are rather good. Aside from New Mexican and ``Southwest'' cooking, international cuisines that are well-represented include French, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, and Spanish -- (Chinese restaurants in Santa Fe are usually disappointing). Below is my own, obviously biased, list of recommended restaurants (I'll be adding some more --).

Recommended Restaurants

Andiamo!, 322 Garfield St, Phone: (505)995-9595. Good Italian, tends to be crowded. Reservations recommended. Moderate plus.

Atomic Grill, 103 E Water St, Phone: (505)820-2866. Nice selection of beers. Good place downtown to hang out for a bit. Moderate minus.

Bagelmania, 420 Catron St, Phone: (505)982-8900. Quite a bit more than bagels. Excellent breakfasts. Moderate.

Bistro 315, 315 Old Santa Fe Trl, Phone: (505)986-9190. French, highly recommended. Small restaurant, reservations a good idea. Expensive.

Downtown Subscription, 376 Garcia St, Phone: (505)983-3085. Coffeehouse. Large collection of magazines, quaff an espresso and listen to aspiring screenwriters at the next table. Try to look cool. Moderate minus.

El Farol, 808 Canyon Rd, Phone: (505)983-9912. Spanish tapas, bar. Once one of the rowdiest bars in SF. Still has character. Moderate plus.
