The QUEST series of workshops were originally sponsored by the QUEST (QUantum Enabled Science and Technology) initiative sponsored by the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory to explore new directions in fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics (information, coherence, communication, computing, control, --) and applications made possible by recent experimental advances (cold atoms, cavity QED, NMR applications, quantum dots, SQUIDs, --). Although the original project is now over, the QUEST workshops will continue as annual events. The primary sponsor of the QUEST workshops is the New Mexico Consortium's Institute for Advanced Studies. Additional support was provided by Theoretical Division, the LANL Quantum Institute, and the Center for Advanced Studies at the University of New Mexico.

QUEST 2007 is a small and highly interactive meeting in the research areas mentioned above. It aims at bringing experts in different sub-disciplines together to provide a picture of the present state-of-the-art and to identify future challenges as well as possible ways to overcome them. The format emphasizes discussion with some formal review and related talks as appropriate. The focus of QUEST 2007 will be on two of the disciplines at the forefront of quantum technology: quantum and atomic optics and condensed matter physics. Topics which deal with the interaction of these fields will be particularly emphasized. The first two days will concentrate on condensed matter and the next two on quantum and atomic optics.

The workshop will be held at the historic La Fonda Hotel, located centrally in the Plaza area of downtown Santa Fe.
