J.R. Oppenheimer and Feynman Fellowships
The Elementary Particles and
Field Theory group (T-8) at LANL
invites applications for J.
Robert Oppenheimer and Feynman Fellowships. Both appointments are for
three years and carry
a starting
salary of $101,500/year. At the end of the 3-year term,
subject to the availability of funds, the fellowship holder is
typically
considered for promotion to permanent staff, based on her/his
scientific performance and potential.
The selection process has two stages: the candidates are first
selected by the T-8 group and then put up for a LANL-wide competition.
The applicants
must be within 5 years of having received
their Ph.D.s. The Oppenheimer Fellowship is open to citizens of all
countries while
for the Feynman Fellowship only U.S. citizens are eligible.
The deadline for submitting the complete application is
* Dec 1, 2007
and is rigid. The decision is expected in late January 2008.

Postdoctoral positions
The Elementary Particles and
Field Theory group (T-8) at LANL
will be offering one post-doctoral positions this year. The
deadline for submitting the complete application is
Dec 1, 2007.
The appointment is normally for two years and can be extended to the
third year depending on the funding situation. The starting date is September 2008, although the details can be negotiable. The salary of
post-doctoral fellows depends on the years of experience after Ph.D. and,
in 2007, ranged between $67,400-$76,500.
Successful postdoctoral candidates will be considered for
nomination to Director's Postdoctoral Fellow position which is
awarded on the basis of a laboratory-wide competition.

About T-8
T-8 staff members conduct research in particle physics and quantum field theory both within and beyond the standard model, including LHC physics, lattice QCD, electroweak symmetry breaking, neutrino physics, gravity and black holes, QFT in curved space, dark energy, cosmology, particle astrophysics, and non-equilibrium field theory.

Application Requirements
The application is the same for all positions. To consider your
application we
MUST receive the following
-
A filled out electronic
application form below
-
At least three (four strongly suggested) letters of reference
supporting your application
-
Curriculum vitae including the list of publications
-
A technical statement of research interests
If selected by the group for the Lab-wide competition for Oppenheimer/Feynman Fellowships or Director's Postdoctoral Fellow positions, applicants will need to quickly supply:
-
A one-page research proposal, at the Scientific American level,
describing what research you intend to do while here (for the Lab-wide
selection committee)
-
Undergraduate and graduate transcripts (unofficial/Xerox copies
are acceptable)
Your application and letters of recommendations should be mailed to
